What it is

The first meeting between a manager and a new hire to introduce themselves, communicate the goal of recurring 1:1s, and decide who owns the agenda

Why it matters

The first 1:1 sets the foundation for the manager <> new hire relationship and establishes good communication norms from Day One.

This is also the time where managers might discuss communication style, review the 30-60-90 day plan, or go over instructions for the new hire’s first project.
